Yesterday the WFFT Rescue Team, composed of staff and volunteers headed out to rescue ‘Thong Ma’ the elderly Asian elephant. After 55 years in chains this old girl now has some freedom. For 2 years she has been confined to a 30cm chain so visitors of an elephant camp in Central Thailand could feed her bananas, they paid 20 Thai baht for this privilege, this cost Thong Ma her freedom. Prior to being at this camp she has been used at various camps to give rides to tourist, and years prior to that she was used as a logging elephant, forced to rip down her own wild habitat.

Thanks to the support of many generous people all over the world for making the rescue of Thong Ma possible, a special thanks to Joan and the gang from Australia, and Stephanie Quinn and friends from the USA. This old girl now has a chance to be an elephant once again.
