Project Description

ALICIA

รุ่งเรือง

Name meaning: Before arrival at the centre Alicia was called Rung Rueng. We officially renamed her in memory of Alicia Thomas, a long-time supporter of WFFT who is sadly no longer with us.
Arrival date: 25/03/2017
Arrival age: 54
Rescue location: Chonburi
History: As with most elderly captive elephants here in Asia their long life histories are not fully known. Alicia for the last six years has been giving rides to tourists in an elephant camp in Western Thailand, prior to that she was used as a logging elephant, possibly in neighbouring Burma, and prior to that she will have been roaming wild in the forests with her family herd. Alicia has a very dominant personality and is very easy to recognise as she has very obvious short tusks. She is known to vocalise in low rumbles throughout the day to communicate with the other elephants here at WFFT. We are also told that in the years at the elephant camp she lived close to two of WFFT’s other residents, Kaew Petch and Lao Ong Dao.
