History: While our rescue team was in Pattaya to rescue another elephant, named Boon Dee, they came across Jum Nong who was in urgent need of help. She was emaciated, covered in wounds, and old abscesses. We examined her sleeping area which was filthy, she had no shade or water and it was evident that she couldn’t digest her food properly. Her young mahout clearly did not have the experience to care for her. Once the vet team could get a closer look they discovered her skin was literally crawling with lice, this would have prevented her from resting and feeding properly. The WFFT team decided to set up a fundraiser to secure her freedom. Thanks to the numerous donations from people all around the word Jum Nong now has a much brighter future. Jum Nong was treated at our elephant hospital where she was regularly sprayed with a special insecticide to kill the small parasites and within a few days she had visibly improved, she was no longer spending every waking moment scratching!
