ทราบไหมครับว่าช้างจำเป็นต้องตัดเล็บเหมือนกับคนเรานี่เเหลาะ!? เป็นเพราะว่าช้างที่ถูกเลี้ยงโดยมนุษย์จะใช้เวลาส่วนใหญ่ยืนบนพื้นผิวผิดธรรมชาติที่สกปรกเเละถูกล่ามโซ่ตลอดทำให้เล็บไม่ค่อยเกิดการเสียดสี ต่างจากช้างป่าที่ต้องเดินหาอาหารเองเล็บจึงสึกกร่อนไปเองตามธรรมชาติ ช้างของเราส่วนใหญ่ต่างเคยใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในที่ที่เเบบนั้นเป็นสิบๆปีโดยขาดการดูเเลจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญดังนั้นมันจึงสำคัญมากที่พวกเขาต้องได้รับการตกเเต่งเล็บบ้าง
ในเคสนี้ มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าได้รับเกียรติจาก ผศ.น.สพ.ดร.วีรพงศ์ ตั้งจิตเจริญ ผู้อำนวยการโรงพยาบาลสัตว์ใหญ่มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่และทีมผู้มาเยี่ยมเยียน ให้คำปรึกษา และ ตัดเล็บให้กับช้างบุญดีเเละเเม่เป๊าะ

Unlike their wild cousins captive elephants are not able to walk 100’s of miles each day. Many of Thailands captive elephants are confined to short chains and kept of unsanitary concrete surfaces. Most of the WFFT Herd have spent decades in similar inhumane places. After years and years of little or no veterinary care these old ladies sometimes need some work doing to their nails and feet.
This week WFFT was honoured to welcome Asst.Prof.Dr. Weerapongse Tangjitjaroen, the Director of the Large Animal Hospital at Chiang Mai University who visited us and performed foot treatments for Boon Dee and Mae Poh.
